Enquire About Our Supported Independent Living

    What is Supported Independent Living?

Supported independent living (often referred to as SIL) is an NDIS support that provides help with everyday activities for people who require ongoing assistance at home. This can be for things like personal care, household tasks and daily routines. SIL is usually delivered in a shared living environment or through scheduled support in your own home, depending on what’s approved in your NDIS plan. It’s intended for those who need regular, ongoing support rather than occasional or short-term help.

    Frequently Asked Questions

Supported independent living covers help with everyday tasks that allow you to live safely at home. This can involve personal care, assistance with meals, household tasks and support with daily routines. The level of support provided depends on what’s approved in your NDIS plan and is usually delivered regularly rather than on a short-term basis.

SIL doesn’t cover rent, utilities, groceries or personal expenses. It also doesn’t replace other support, such as Specialist Disability Accommodation or Short Term Accommodation. It focuses on ongoing daily support, not the cost of housing or temporary stays.

Supported independent living (SIL) is about the support you receive, while specialist disability accommodation (SDA) relates to the physical design of the home. SIL can be delivered in different housing types, including non-SDA homes. SDA funding applies only to eligible participants and covers housing features, while SIL covers daily support needs.

Eligibility is assessed by the NDIS and is usually approved for participants who need regular support at home and can’t live independently without it. The NDIS considers your support needs, living situation and goals. You can speak with our team to talk through whether SIL may be suitable for you.
